Newcastle 2nd XI vs Tynemouth (Home)
 Again,
a few changes into the team. With Chris Welch disappearing from the face
of the earth, the reliable Danny Carr came in along with Tim Cartwright
after his innings for the firsts on the previous day not being very fruitful
for James Bailey.
Having won the toss, we decided to have a bowl due to the fact our bowling
attack wasn't as strong as we had wished for, being without messers Bailey
and Humble. However they were not missed as we skittled the visitors for
a mere 88, and that included a last wicket stand of over 30 between Fanta
who top scored with 38 not out and some rotund character!
The opening attack of Skipper Robson and Shaun "I AM an opening
Bowler" Collins reduced Tynemouth to 11-5 from 15 overs, Collins
finishing with 9-2-16-3 and Robson using Larwood type policies of bouncing
the No 11 when going round the wicket, attaining the miserly figures of
8.5-2-6-2. Helpful contributions from Ports (1-17) and Tim 'daddy longlegs'
Cartwright (1-21) helped Newcastle keep the pressure on the Tynemouth
batters. Rowdy also chipped in with a wicket, but the less said about
his double bouncer hit straight to the hands of his bro Danny 'Imaran'
Carr, the better! Rowdy retired from bowling with a sore nipple!
Newcastle
then set about knocking off the minimal target and were in a very strong
position of 78-4, when light drizzle caused the teams to leave the field
(under orders from the umpire). Their opening bowler took the wicket of
our villagers, Hurford and Roe, with the finest sight for any opening
bowler, seeing the downfall for Chaz Roe!
So with no result, and Tim warned for his comments to the umpire, (he
asked if he was scared that his hair might go curly?) we will have to
thrash them in the league this coming Saturday and also the replay, whenever
that is arranged!
