Newcastle 1st XI vs Blaydon (Away)
The good old British summer! After the nice weather last week we where
hoping for more of the same but were greeted by heavy rain the night before.
This meant a greaner and wetter Blaydon pitch than normal! The Glute won
the toss and inserted Blaydon. Newcastle got off to a great start when,
shock-horror(!), we caught a slip catch, the Glute snaring their opener
for 0 off the bowling of Mr. T. Blaydon batted steadily and just as they
where getting set for a big score Filthy ran out their pro Jimmy Adams.
He must count himself unlucky as he hit the ball to cover at Filthy who
was looking typically lethargic. However the Filthy Aussie sprung into
action and threw down the stumps at the bowlers' end! A great piece of
fielding by Scotty who will now be banished from the slips forever! Just
before lunch Jonny B was dealt a sickening blow to the elbow which meant
he left the field injured. Thankfully he returned after lunch to bowl
his dog's-dinners and was relieved not to have a broken arm, as it could
have been a lot worse. After a good lunch we continued to bowl a good,
consistent line and length with all the bowlers deserving of their efforts,
picking up at least 1 wicket each. Blaydon eventually finished on 195
for 8 from their full 65 overs.
Once again we got off to a bad start losing a regular visitor to ducks
corner Matty Hynd. Big Will & Ritzy started to repair the damage
however, before big Will was snared at bat-pad. This brought Filthy to
the crease who smashed the ball into the allotments twice before being
caught for 20. Ritzy batted on and reached a well-crafted 50 before being
caught at mid-on in identical fashion to the last fixture against Blaydon.
The rain had threatened and eventually came with Newcastle at 109/4 with
the Legend and Jimmy Mathewson not out at the end. However there is an
ongoing investigation as Jimmy Mathewson was fed a couple of 'free' balls
from his mate Jimmy Adams to get off the mark! (very dubious!)
A losing draw was the outcome and with the rest of the results over the
weekend we moved back up to 4th bottom. Once again we look forward to
next week and a home game against Stockton where we hope for a win!

Newcastle 2nd XI vs Blaydon (Home)
Despite a poor weather forcast, we managed to get all but 5 overs into
the game. A few changes to the team with Cowans and Humble missing, and
the ever reliable Danny Carr and Justin Rourke coming in.
Having lost the toss we were asked to bat on another good Jesmond strip.
With the ball moving all over the shop, we made a steady start losing
just the Village in the first 20 overs - after that it was just the Chris
Clark show. You knew it was going to be his day when his first scoring
shot was a pinging on drive to the boundrey for 4. Then followed an array
of glorious shots, including 3 or 4 maximums, on his way to a blisting
unbeaten century. Good partnerships with Rowdy (37) Tim (18) and Shaun
(37) projected us to a total of 254-5 dec from 50 overs.
After one of the worst teas we have had for a long time (no tea or cutlary)
we made a great start with the Big Bully and Shaun getting wickets in
their first overs, reducing Blaydon to 5-2 and took constant wickets throughout.
There were no jugglers in need of the sack this week with good catches
taken by Danny Carr (x2), Kingers and the Skipper. Kingers even joined
the wickets from with his medium-filth with his first delivery, but the
less said about that the better really. Newcastle were lacking the bowling
power to bowl them all out, Blaydon ending on 149-8 from 50 overs, with
the last 5 overs lost to dave lashingitdownmans! 16 point wasn't too bad
though - roll on Stockton!
