A special presentation was made at the St James’ Park Dinner to a North East cricketing legend: Ken Pearson.

Sir Bobby Robson presented him with an inscribed landscape picture of the historic cricket ground for services to cricket at Jesmond, on behalf of the Campaign members. In his cricketing career Ken scored an amazing 9,100 runs – 3000 more than any other player. His highest ever innings score was 138, and he ran up the most runs per season for Northumberland on six occasions.
Announcing the award, event host Spike Rawlings said Ken was widely recognized as a “stalwart” of the game, thanks to his service on cricket committees as well as his exceptional playing record. Delight at the award was reflected on the NCC website – one emailer wrote that Ken “...is a special guy who deserves recognition... I’ve loved watching him play and also enjoyed his insight, knowledge and friendship.”

1st Sept 2004: August Bank Holiday - Fun and games outside and in:

Image - Aug bank Holiday Open DayAgainst the backdrop of a Newcastle cricket match, youngsters enjoyed a bouncy castle, goal-kick competitions, and a chance to try out their own batting and bowling skills.

That left parents free to relax and sample the other attractions. Bargains included hundreds of "as new" books and bedding plans courtesy of the Heighley Gate Garden Centre.

The star attraction was the raffle, thanks to a Newcastle United football, signed not just by the team but also the manager whose departure had been announced that day. The majority were sad to see him go and felt he'd done a great job for the team.

Yet another enjoyable event produced a good sum for the campaign coffers - nearly £500 more has been added to the fund!
